Hey my Loves 💜,
So I changed my text as it was a bit too much spoken from my own point of view. I don’t think I was really able to distance myself as this is a topic that I’m too personal involved in. Some part of me is afraid to post this, but I hope and know many others may need to see this as well.
As a rape victim myself, this post reminded me that it’s important to speak up about the fact that rape is not limited to women alone. Men are also victims of sexual assault and they deserve to step forward and be taken seriously, because not many of them are feeling the safety yet to do so!
There is an estimate of 1 in 71 men and 1 in 6 boys that are victims of sexual assault. In 93% of the cases, these men and boys were raped by men. When genders of victims get combined, men perpetrate 78% of all sexual assaults.
We don’t get taught enough about the importance of consent, and we are not being taught enough what boundaries are, and we aren’t taught that we NEED consent in order to go through with our actions in a respectful way. If we change our educational system then maybe we can reduce abuse.
