How are you doing? Surprise surprise I’m in even more shoulder pain that I was in the last two days. Luckily my eagerness to draw didn’t go away and I was super inspired here after seeing a post from @feminist on Instagram.
As a rape victim myself, this post reminded me that it’s important to speak up about the fact that rape is not limited to women alone. Men are also victims of sexual assault and they deserve to step forward and be taken seriously, because not many of them are feeling the safety yet to do so!
There is an estimate of 1 in 71 men and 1 in 6 boys that are victims of sexual assault. In 93% of the cases, these men and boys were raped by men. When genders of victims get combined, men perpetrate 78% of all sexual assaults.
We don’t get taught enough about the importance of consent, and we are not being taught enough what boundaries are, and we aren’t taught that we NEED consent in order to go through with our actions in a respectful way. If we change our educational system then maybe we can reduce abuse.
